Mark Berkery writes a blog called Nature’s Place, and if you haven’t been there already, you should gogogo! He takes the most lovely insect photos and couples them with dreamy and/or thoughtful posts. I love it.
With his permission, I drew one of his photographs. It was a lot of fun, and although there are plenty of mistakes, I kinda like the result. Let me know what you think!
Here’s a link to his photograph: LINK
I don’t know if anyone is interested in the steps, but I enjoy it when other people put the photos of progress up, so here are some of mine (I’m bad at remembering to do this):

First drawing, black and white. I do this is real quick, maybe 5 or 10 minutes, just by looking at the picture and then drawing what I see.

I think it’s a beauty any way you look at it. It should have your sig in the corner though – it’s your work, maybe my name on the back as original image maker …
Yay! So glad you like it! I just wanted to be respectful of your rights as the photographer.
Besides, it was part of the image I was drawing. I had fun doodling ants on your name, haha, sorry about that.
Thanks, I have started following Mark’s blog
Excellent! It is all part of my evil plan, muahaha.
I like your drawing. Maybe not good for ID, but pretty nice as a drawing.
Haha, you are probably right! Just for pretty, then.
“Just for pretty”? I think the drawing is bloody great, when I don’t spend time and energy looking for ID. I think ID is much overrated anyway …
BTW, although Oz is famous for its diversity of flora and fauna it is also one of the least explored. I couldn’t find ID on this one and so named it the Orange Tailed Leafcutter – because it has an orange abdomen, of course. The Latin escapes me right now.
I’m so glad you like it! I think your photograph is bloody great.
I could spend a life time learning about the flora and fauna of Oz. It certainly looks like a Megachilid/Leafcutter of some sort, if I had to guess.
