Is kinda pretty, doncha think?
Syrphid on New England Aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae)
I don’t normally think flies are very pretty
Maybe I’m biased because it is a bee mimic?
Or maybe just because these New England Asters are so gosh darn pretty?
Maybe I just like things (Bombus impatiens) on flowers.
I love the contrast of the yellow and black against the purple. I adore purple flowers (and searched high and low for them for my wedding!), and I had no idea that flies could be so beautiful. I’m pretty sure I would have thought it was a bee.
My sister’s bouquet was also purple flowers! We found this lovely purple clover. I personally thought lavender would have been a nice addition as well.
I just started learning about these guys and my asters are blooming too…Michelle
There are a surprising number of different species of syrphids!
I see them here too and think they are pretty. The photos are wonderful.
