Did you know that there is an entire genus of plants called the Pinks? (Keeping it classy, that taxonomy.*) The genus name is Dianthus and it contains about 300 species, most of them in Europe. One species (Dianthus armeria) that has been introduced to the US is quite common in my area, and can be found on roadsides and in marginal habitat. (I guess you could call it invasive, but why would you?)
According to wikipedia “the blooms close up at 4:00 PM, approximately.”
The reason I highlight this species today is because a) it is pretty b) I wanted to play with my camera settings and c) it is a high class weed! Seriously! It’s name is “Deptford Pink”! To me, that just inspires pinkies-up-on-a-tea-cup.**

I found this with a quick google search of the above phrase. It’s not properly cited, but I couldn’t resist; I found it here (via Meme-Meme)
Anyway, here is the same flower, just adjusting the aperture, shutter speed, and white balance on my camera. (I think it looks kinda cool.)

Your dorkiness is awesome! 😀
Hey, remember this blog is rated G for Geeky. You can read the disclaimer on my about page. 😛
I already did! See this: http://beehiveinmyheart.wordpress.com/2013/06/17/sometimes-we-all-need-a-little-chewie/ for some evidence of my geekery.
I’m honing my Jedi tea cup hold right now. 😀
And #3 is my fave pink.
Love it! Don’t practice the Jedi hold with hot liquids!!
Spilling it not I am. :p
Hehehehe
I’ve got to admit it, you have lots of classy puns!
Muahaha
Hmmmmmmm. “High class weed…”. Just dreaming, that’s all. RH
Hahaha, that thought never crossed my mind!
