Sam Droege’s Bees

So, not to say “I told you so”, but Wired.com just picked up Sam Droege’s amazing collection of bee photos, which he has been compiling for some time.  If you like bee photos, these are really nonpareil.

You can find them here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/usgsbiml/

And Wired’s article here: http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2013/08/beautiful-bees/?pid=7213&viewall=true

Sam’s photos have always been popular among bee folk in the know, but it was only after he posted them to the sharing website reddit.com that they attracted popular attention.  Here is a collection of the photos he posted on that site, using imgur: http://imgur.com/a/zjHQs

At the time I am writing this post, that webpage has nearly 200,000 views.

Here is a selection from the comments section of the reddit thread; people who know nothing about bees seeing these photos!

Wow, the black one is cool. No wait, the blue one is better. What? A green bee? That’s the best one. Hold on! The gray one! I love the gray one!

The blue bee looked like it was created by a one night stand that included a regular bee & a fly.

The blue one looks like it could have been designed by Mazda..

These bees look like they’re part of some insect crime-fighting task force.

They look so hi-tech, ultra-modern with their precision carbon fiber looking eyes, and their wind tunnel bodies. Nature is a strange thing.

If beebro didn’t carry plant jizz everywhere, you wouldn’t have fruits and vegetables. You should be thankful

I can only imagine how f**king happy that first bee is covered in pollen.

Let’s not let them go extinct because of pesticides. Because, you know. We’d sort of die without them.

To all the haters of bees: do you realise the planet would be f**ked without them, especially the bumble bee? Pollination is the key word!

I feel like they all have special jobs and go on special missions based on their color!
brohanman 1 point : 21 hours ago reply
I wonder if bees ever get allergies to pollen.
