My neighbors must think I’m crazy. Why am I always standing outside in -4F taking photos of the moon in my pajamas? Because I’m STANDING OUT IN MY FIELD!

In this self taught photography lesson I learned that it is very hard to balance the light correctly. The moon is too bright relative to the surrounding landscape. You can’t get features on the moon without losing everything else! And you can’t get features on everything else without turning the moon into a shiny spotlight.

Or you can play a delicate waiting game with the dawn…if the sun lights the sky too much you lose the moon, but just enough light and the trees start to come out.

I like the last photograph. You must be immune to chilblains.
Well, not immune…I still get them. But I’m used to them! I get them when I bike in every day during the winter. I am always having to beat the life back into my hands. 😐
