My neighbors must think I’m crazy. Why am I always standing outside in -4F taking photos of the moon in my pajamas? Because I’m STANDING OUT IN MY FIELD!
In this self taught photography lesson I learned that it is very hard to balance the light correctly. The moon is too bright relative to the surrounding landscape. You can’t get features on the moon without losing everything else! And you can’t get features on everything else without turning the moon into a shiny spotlight.
But you can focus on just the moon if you want
Or you can play a delicate waiting game with the dawn…if the sun lights the sky too much you lose the moon, but just enough light and the trees start to come out.
And then maybe you can compromise between the moon and the houses
Or a cloud will cover it at just the wrong moment, sigh.
