Ground nesting bees: Agapostemon

I stumbled on a sweat bee nest during one of my surveys.  I mentioned these communal nesting bees in an earlier post, but they are so pretty I can’t help but share again!

    • Nope! Those are ocelli…they’re like extra eyes. All bees have their two main eyes (faceted), but three additional ocelli on top of their heads are for light reception though they don’t “see” in the traditional sense.
