Montezuma Wildlife Refuge is an amazing little swamp at the north end of Cayuga Lake in New York. There are a few trails to walk on, but the famous part of the swamp is a cars-only wildlife drive. Cars cruise along at a slow pace and pull over whenever and wherever they feel like to take photographs or otherwise enjoy the wildlife.
This was a perfect way for me to recover from a half marathon I ran earlier in the day, so a friend and I cruised around and took approximately five million photos. Between the two of us, we had two cameras, four lenses, and a pair of binoculars. Any time we saw anything cool, we had to pull over and trade cameras, switch out lenses, and spout out guesses about bird identifications.
The sunset was equally stunning.
Love the ducks taking off in that photo…their reflections were almost more clear than their real selves!
Are swamps better than the beach? Maybe yes, IMHO
