Updates on our Arthropod pets

I’ve posted about some of the delightful arthropod pets that live in my office before, but we’ve had some adorable additions that I thought I would share.

We now have seven tarantulas…here are the ones that were cooperating:

Fine, DON’T cooperate! See if I care!

We also have a scorpion:

And predatory stink bugs (Euthyrhynchus floridanus):

We’ve had these death feigning beetles (Asbolus verrucosus) for a long time:

But we’ve added Warrior Beetles (Pasimachus sp.) to our beetle collection:

And rainbow dung beetles (Phanaeus vindex)!  Which are always exciting to feed…Rascal has been doing a lot of the feeding for us (she delivers!):

And of course our stick insect population is booming:

I’ll do a Mantis photo shoot update soon…

  1. The rainbow dung beetles are so pretty. So do all these creatures roam wild in your office? I like the idea of lifting up a pile of books and finding a scorpion underneath, would probably put off any unwanted human visitors.

    • Haha I sort of wish that were true! But alas, no, they all live in cages and terraria. Every once in a while, one escapes and we get in trouble. One of the millipedes escaped a few months ago. Sneaky millipedes…
