Yellow eyed Junco
I figured out what these were by asking an ornithologist if he could identify “those junco-type birds with yellow eyes” for me. And he said, “Oh. Those are yellow-eyed juncos.” Right.
Moody American Robin
These are handsome sparrows
Taking a grumpy bath (these guys do everything grumpy)
Black headed Grosbeak
These guys are adorable, I wish I had better photos! (They are also the soundtrack to all those old westerns: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Gambels_Quail/id)
My first AZ bird! I saw it in the cell phone waiting lot right outside the airport!
(The Frumpiest) Northern Mockingbird (I have ever seen)
Mockingbirds do not do well in Phoenix heat, apparently.
Phainopepla (wins the name of the week award!)
These guys are cool
They’re known as the satiny flycatchers
Rough-legged hawk (you guys gotta listen to the obnoxious call this hawk has!)
Some more cool birds I saw but didn’t get to photograph: Roadrunner (noooooo! I wanted a photo so bad!!), Montezuma Quail
