Last week was a rough week

I find myself shocked and distraught by all of the violence and death in the past week. In addition to the shootings in Orlando (both at the night club and Christina Grimmie), the death of the cyclists (hit by a pick up truck), and the information about the Stanford rapist, I lost a dear friend to a horrible car accident last Monday.

It was a chain reaction accident in which a woman swerved because of sun glare on her windshield, causing a dump truck to swerve and hit my friend in his car.  He was killed instantly.  He was not only a great man, but a critical component of our and many other research projects.  We had a somber meeting today where we all tried to figure out how we were going to live without him.  Stressful and painful…

So let’s all hope that this coming week will lack the violence of the past week. Until then, whatever constitutes a moment of silence on a blog.

  1. Im so sorry the senselessness of it all is so terrible, my thoughts and prayers to you and his family. All we can do is stick together

  2. I am sorry for the loss of your friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and his family and friends and also all those in Orlando. This is part of an Irish saying – “When the road you walk is dark, May you always hear, Even in your hour of sorrow,The gentle singing of the lark.”

  3. I am so sorry about your friend. So much shock and sorrow. Be gentle with yourself. Stay close to those you love. Take all the time you need, we will be here when you return.

  4. So sorry to read about your friend. Live life as though it will end tomorrow and the sorrow will lift. Embrace the ones in your life now, every minute. Every breathing second is precious!

  5. I am sorry that you lost your friend and during a week when the loss will seem particularly bleak. The only thing that makes life bearable is love and kindness. May you experience both in your life during the coming days.

  6. Bless you. We share your moment of blog-silence.

And I am so sorry to hear of the death of your friend and colleague. We need more entomologists in the world, and fewer violent and desperate people.

Sending love, even though we do not know one another.
