Okay, so everyone knows about THE Crater Lake, as in Crater Lake National Park. But have you heard of Little Crater Lake? I thought not! According to Wikipedia, geologists consider Little Crater Lake “an oddity”, because they don’t really know how it formed. Some geologic process formed a depression in the ground, which was filled by “Artesian spring water”*.
However it was made, it is beautiful, and a worthy little hike to do if you wake up early and want to explore before the world wakes up.
A narrow little boardwalk leads out to the lake
The most notable thing about this tiny lake is its colour…so blue!
And so clear!
And so deep!
You can see all the fallen trees in the lake all the way down. They look perfectly preserved.
A beautiful little lake as a nice reward for a short hike.
*Are they trying to sell it?
