Some photos from Kilkenny, Ireland

I was down in Kilkenny last weekend because I collect the plants I use for my field experiment from a conservation area down there. Last year, I went straight to the conservation area, but this year I had a little time to spend in the city itself, and I did some good old SOIMF* wandering. Wandering is what I do!

  1. Question: is the heron on a sinking gazebo or a goose house? I have seen one example in a museum in US, from when people liked to have a victorian folly type structure out in the middle of a pond, on a landmass, so the geese or ducks had a place to rest during the day. I assume the structure type was dictated less by what the geese wanted and more by what amused landowners.
