Photos from the River Field

River Field
This is the conservation area near Kilkenny where I collect my research plants. It is genuinely one of my favourite places in Ireland…there are barn owls and badgers and a little patch of heavenly woodland in an otherwise heavily agricultural region. The owner of the River Field had a blog where you could read about goings on for a while, although I don’t think she’s written anything there in a long time. You can read it here: http://theriverfield.blogspot.ie/

Owl Pellet
Owl pellet from the barn owls (I saw one at a very great distance, but it counts because I’ve never seen a barn owl before!)

Here are a few photos I took this year while I was digging away…

  1. I hope you get to see a barn owl up close. They are beautiful. Long ago, live trapping wood mice on sand dunes in Scotland, for a mark recapture project, i had one fly right above my head! Always had to check skies before releasing any mice though!!
